Occupied-building works planner NSW

Plan the questions that matter when people need to keep using a building during refurbishment, remedial or façade works.

Use this early discussion brief with the building representative and appointed project team. It is not a site safety plan, SWMS, evacuation plan or permission to begin work.

No login or email required. The tool keeps your answers in this tab. Choose the optional review link to carry the summary to Contact SCE; nothing is submitted automatically.

Describe the occupancy constraints

Occupied-building works planning FAQs

Can refurbishment take place while a building is occupied?

Some projects can be staged around continuing occupation, but that needs to be assessed for the actual works and users. Record access restrictions, working hours, deliveries, service interruptions and any temporary relocation needs so the building representative and project team can agree the arrangements.

What should an occupied-building works brief cover?

Describe the proposed works, who will continue using the building, preferred staging, access and delivery constraints, essential services, temporary amenities and communication responsibility. Include questions about emergency access and egress for review by the responsible project team.

Does this tool replace a site safety plan or SWMS?

No. It creates an early discussion brief. It is not a site safety plan, safe work method statement, evacuation plan or permission to begin work. The appointed team must prepare the project-specific documents and arrangements required for the works.

How should service interruptions be planned?

Identify whether outages may be needed, which services must remain operating and what specialist review has already been arranged. Record unresolved questions for the project team before the sequence is agreed. Do not assume a service can be interrupted simply because it appears in the brief.

Who should coordinate resident or building-user communication?

Agree that responsibility with the building or strata representative, facilities manager and project team. The brief should identify the contact arrangement, upcoming access changes and timing restrictions so notices can be coordinated with the actual work sequence.

Should I enter resident names or security details?

No. Use general access and support requirements. Do not enter resident names, health details, access codes or security arrangements. Answers remain in the tab unless you choose to copy, print or carry the summary to the optional review form.
